How to make a Discord Bot in Python! (Part 13: Cogs) (2021 Update)

Adding Cogs to your Discord Bot is one of the best things you can do. It transforms your Discord Bot and Python code into something that is undoubtedly better via the use of Cogs. It allows for all of your commands and events to be organised into corresponding sections which means that it's a lot easier to read and understand the Python code for your Discord Bot. As well as this, it also brings some practical benerfits for the user of your Bot. For example, you can allow only certain users to use certain commands. In this video, I go over exactly what a cog is and why you would want to use one. I also cover how to actually set one up and use it in Python. ►Please consider joining my discord server 🤍 ►If you would like to support me and this channel please consider donating on Patreon 🤍 ►Social Media Instagram - 🤍 Twitter - 🤍 Patreon - 🤍 Discord - 🤍 ► Business Inquiries ONLY james.d.s.business🤍gmail.com #discordbot

How to Make Bot And Setup Cogs In v2 | Discord.py

→ Visual Studio Code - 🤍 → Discord Server - 🤍 → Brutal : 🤍 → To make a bot in discord.py and set up cogs in version 2, you will need to do the following steps: 1. Install discord.py by running the command pip install discord.py in your command line. 2. Create a new Python file for your bot, and import the discord.py library. 3. Create a new bot account on the Discord Developer Portal, and invite the bot to your server. 4. Copy the bot's token and paste it into your Python file as a string. 5. Create a new client object for your bot using the discord.Client() class. 6. Use the on_ready() event to print a message when the bot is connected to Discord. 7. Use the run() method to log the bot in with the token. 8. To set up cogs, create a new folder named "cogs" in your bot's directory. 9. Within the "cogs" folder, create a new Python file for each cog. 10. In each cog file, import the discord.ext.commands library and create a new class that inherits from commands.Cog. 11. Define methods within the class to handle commands, and use the 🤍commands.command() decorator to mark them as commands. In your bot file, import the cogs using from cogs import cog_name 12. In your bot file's on_ready() event, add the cogs to the bot's commands extension using bot.add_cog(cog_name(bot)) Start the bot using a command like python bot.py → Please note that this is a simplified version of the process and you may need to add more code for your desired functionality. #discord #dpy #cogs #bot #discordbot #technology

Command And Events In Cogs | Discord.py V2

→ Visual Studio Code - 🤍 → Discord Server - 🤍 → Brutal : 🤍 Cogs are a way to organize code in the popular Python Discord bot library, "discord.py". A command is a specific function or set of actions that can be triggered by a user through a message in a Discord channel. An event is a specific action or occurrence that happens within the Discord API, such as a user joining a server or a message being deleted. In discord.py, commands are defined using the 🤍bot.command() decorator, while events are defined using the 🤍bot.event() decorator. For example, the following code defines a command that, when called, will make the bot say "Hello, world!" in the channel it was called in: 🤍bot.command() async def hello(ctx): await ctx.send("Hello, world!") And this code defines an event that will trigger when a user joins the server: 🤍bot.event async def on_member_join(member): print(f'{member} has joined the server.') In both cases, the bot variable is an instance of the Client class from discord.py, and ctx is a special object that contains information about the context of the command or event, such as the message that triggered it or the user who sent it. #bot #cogs #discord #discordbot #dpy #technology #commands #events
