Fire Emblem Engage is the first major Nintendo Switch release of 2023, and we've played the first eight chapters. Here are 10 of the biggest changes as well as some of our early thoughts sprinkled in for good measure. #FireEmblem #GameSpot #Gaming
Weapon triangle was already a thing wym a “change” i also dont like they didnt add many characters from the DS era which is where i found this series. Idk alot of these engage characters. Also 10 resets(divine pulses)to start with? Seems like they made this game to dang easy. Should start with 2 or 3 then upgrade later
i really like the changes, but it hurts that they made anna an 11yo axe user ._.
I loved Three Houses and I don't like what I see here - the characters are blank, uninteresting, just like the world we see in the trailer. I'm glad they are keeping most of 3H mechanics and they are expanding on them, but atmosphere-wise this game is going to be very mediocre.
Fire emblem really can't decide whether or not to keep weapon durability going back and forth in recent games.
On one hand I don't like weapon durability but I understand why it's in Fire Emblem however the new break system makes having the right weapon more important than ever so guess it's a fair trade off.
I'm amongst the popular group of having fire emblem three houses be my first FE game, however I have a question for all the veterans.
Does this game (since it's based on traditional methods) seem like it's more strategic based (involving the recruiting aspect) compared to the older games?
To me it seems so linear that everyone is going to have the exact same playthrough with a few minor changes. Don't get me wrong, FE:3H was phenomenal in bringing the choices of recruiting someone who specialized in one class and even making it challenging to acquire them. I'm on the fence about the weapon triangle due to playing games like DBZ:UT where it was all luck based... but I'm on the fence on getting this game because I don't want it to be "too" casual. I'm glad this game still has weapon build up and the durability is gone, but what appears to be the lack of recruiting/change classes for people just doesn't sit right with me. (I might have misinterpreted the video if I did, show me where they say you can)
This is a superior fire emblem game to three houses. ITS REAL FIRE EMBLEM gameplay. The tactics are back and better than ever
Graphically it is EXTREMELY superior to three houses. This is so much better
All these weebs playing as chicks.
I´m actually not a fan of durability getting remove. That means that you can just use the most powerful weapons you have. In past games they had small durability to balance their power, where you only used them when necessary, and it also meant you had to take care of inventory management, especially with units who can wield more weapon types. No reason to take steel weapons with you for smaller enemies, when you can just use your silver or crit weapons all the time without worrying...
Weapon durability is an excellent feature as it turns weapons into a resource you need to manage rather than tedious busywork to optimize your stats. Shame it's gone.

I was confused why Smash bros was mentioned for Marth.
Hearing no week to week schedule keeping is an instant win to me. I hate that element of games.
This made me so excited !!
I am actually glad that the school system is gone. It took for me ages to get to the next battle. For the first playtrough it was fine. But the second and third one felt very tedious
Apparently no one is going to talk about the fact that they're trying to shoehorn in Fire Emblem Warriors BS with the ring fusion. Really hope they have a cap for that and not just putting in gacha stuff for microtransaction benefit (i.e. you buy more in-game currency to buy more rings that may or may not summon higher-ranked stuff).
Thanks for the review! BIG QUESTION: Is it possible to progress through the game without using (or slightly using) the home base and all its features? I don't want to spend too much time doing all these new, extra activities.
I still can't get behind the hair.
I mean, I already preloaded the game. At this point no review can stop me from playing it
Oh yay... lackluster characters followed by a lackluster plot.
